The Challenge
BTI’s client, a large capital markets firm,
faced losing a system developer with exclusive knowledge of a complex
mission critical system. The developer worked with members of his
team on specific aspects of the system, but no one had a complete
picture of the system other than the developer. The client requested
that documentation be developed for the system so that team members
would be able to maintain the system after the developer left the
company.
BTI’s Approach: PRIME Knowledge Transfer(SM)
BTI’s consultants quickly realized that in
addition to documentation, team members would benefit from PRIME
Knowledge Transfer(SM). Interview sessions were arranged with the
developer and members of his team were invited to participate.
BTI’s consultants began by asking basic questions about the
system and allowing team members to add to the discussion. This
created an environment for open dialog between all of the team
members and the developer, allowing team members to efficiently
close gaps in their knowledge of the system. BTI’s consultants
were then able to collaborate closely with team members to ensure
that the content and design of the documentation would meet their
immediate and on-going needs.
Benefits of PRIME Knowledge Transfer(SM)
BTI’s PRIME Knowledge Transfer(SM) tool allowed
the client to efficiently, effectively and confidently mitigate
the knowledge loss, minimizing risk to the firm when the developer
left. PRIME Knowledge Transfer(SM) diminished ongoing risk by providing
documentation as a reference tool, as well as a resource for training
new team members. The client was able to use PRIME Knowledge Transfer(SM)
to keep the mission critical system running smoothly after the
developer had left the company.
